Irma (of Cooking with Irma fame) goes away for a week and asks Al, an amateur chef, to guest host her show while she's gone - with Tim as his assistant. Al is a natural in the kitchen and a big hit with Irma's audience, but when Tim's jokes and clowning fail to get any laughs he plans to quit assisting Al. Al accuses Tim of wanting to bail because he's not the center of attention, and at home Jill helps Tim realize that it's possible to just assist someone without trying to make a bunch of corny jokes.

Meanwhile, Randy struggles to win the affections of his crush Beth -- with a little help from Brad, Ashley and Wilson.
