Tim and Al are nervous when Binford is bought by a new investor, who they fear will want to cancel Tool Time. When Tim meets with Bud Harper, the new owner, Bud explains that he loves Tool Time and wants to take it national - but only if Tim fires Al, who younger viewers don't like. Tim agonizes over the decision, but ultimately tells Bud he won't do the show without Al, defending his skills and his character. Together, Tim and Al cut a deal with Bud to do a smaller Tool Time expansion with them on a trial basis - and afterwards, Al gives Tim a very unwanted best friend hug.
